The Interchurch Center has a large on-site art gallery featuring some of the finest artists in Central Indiana. Many of the members of the Interchurch Community organize exhibitions to bring attention to the causes they serve. The gallery provides an excellent way to attract people to the Interchurch Center and engage them in important conversations.
The Interchurch Gallery has hosted more than 50 exhibitions, and is entirely volunteer-driven. Many exhibits are organized by members of the Interchurch Community such as Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS), the Sierra Club, and the Indiana Undocumented Youth Alliance (IUYA). Other exhibits feature local artists such Flava Fresh. Still others are nationally and internationally renowned “blockbusters” such as the St. John’s Bible and Birds of Longing: Exile and Memory.
Around most exhibits, CIC and IIC help organize and promote lectures, conversations, music performances, and even discussions of service opportunities. For instance, IUYA’s exhibit of art and photography by young undocumented immigrants featured weekly workshops on topics such as writing letters to newspaper editors and organizing civil rallies. An exhibit of photographs of Muslim Hoosiers which the CIC organized with the Muslim Alliance of Indiana, coincided with the 2016 election, and became the locus of many events discussing the future of Muslims in the US.
