April 18th — pilgrimage groupie and expert Ian McIntosh has invited James Duncan to lead the next walk along the Indy Spiritual Trail. Dr. James C. Duncan is a Professor of Humanities and the Director of Global Education at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis.  Before beginning his academic career he served over 20 years as a Navy Chaplain (United Methodist), including service in Japan.  He believes that reflective walking is a spiritual discipline and he has twice walked the Camino de Santiago.

The theme will be “Walking with Gratitude.” Says Ian:

While this spiritual walk does not guarantee you will enjoy all the following benefits overnight, you will learn some basic skills to reflect upon and record what you are grateful for. Practicing gratitude helps with:

Emotional life: By feeling better, being more relaxed and resilient, less envious;
Personality: By being less materialistic and self-centered, with more optimism and self-esteem;
Health: By sleeping better, experiencing less stress and sickness and exercising more;
Social lives: By being kinder which in turn influences all our relationships in a positive way; and
Careers: By making better decisions, improving work relations, and overall increased productivity.
