The Indiana Undocumented Youth Alliance (IUYA) and DONT SLEEP are hosting a Cinema Conversation with Angy Rivera, a Co-Director at the New York State Youth Leadership Council (NYSYLC). The NYSYLC is a youth led organization fighting for immigrant justice through leadership development and community organizing. In 2012, Rivera met documentary maker Mikaela Shwer who filmed her and her family for the film entitles No Le Digas A Nadie (Don’t Tell Anyone). The documentary, which aired on PBS, navigates the difficult reality and double silence Rivera experiences as an undocumented immigrant and survivor of sexual assault. More About the Film: Fleeing the growing violence and unrest of Columbia, Angy’s mother brought her to the US when she was just 4. She is promised the American dream if she keeps her undocumented status a secret. That all ends when she graduates from high school and realizes there is no opportunity for her. Despite her fear of deportation, Angy “comes out” as undocumented.
