“Birds of Longing” Opening Night Reception

January 6 the magnificent exhibit “Birds of Longing: Exile and Memory” kicked off with a reception at the Indiana Interchurch Center. The artist Laurie Wohl came from New York to explain the intention and creation of the textile pieces. The exhibit is inspired by La Convivencia, the centuries long period in medieval Spain when Jews, Muslims and Christians co-existed in relative harmony. Laurie’s pieces incorporate poetry and sacred texts from that time, as well as contemporary poetry from the Middle East. The Exhibit is in the Interchurch Center through January; it will be at the Jewish Community Center through February.
